I learnt this from John Maxwell and I want to share with you 5 things you can do to live a generous life.

1. Be grateful for whatever you have.

You must be grateful for what you have right now because when you get what you desire, there will always be something else out there that will try to get your attention and steal your contentment. Be grateful for your current blessings right now.

2. Put People First.

We are living in an age where everything is WIIFM (What’s In It For Me). We need to change such an attitude. We need to put other people first. Stop only focusing on our selves. When we make an impact in someone’s lives it impacts our lives as well.

3. Don’t allow the desire for possessions to control you.

Some people are possessed by their possessions. Don’t ever allow that to happen to you. When you are sick and in your deathbed your possessions will profit you little. People are more important than possessions.

4. See money as a resource

See money as a resource that you can use to bless people with. Don’t be so focused on money that it is all you dream and think about. Money is a resource that you have and it can be lost if you do not use it wisely.

5. Develop the habit of giving

Many times in life you may meet someone who needs a financial blessing. Why not bless them with some of the money you have. Giving is the highest level of living. When you give to people you reap a harvest. You cannot expect to reap a harvest if you do not plant in the spring time. Learn to be a giver. Give of your time, your talent and your treasures.

If you will take the time to implement these 5 things in your life, you will be one of the most generous persons in the world.

3 Tips for Saving Money

Today I will like to share with you 3 tips for saving money.

Let me be honest with you. I am sure that you are just like me at times when it comes to your money. You work in a job, you make money and then at the end of the month you wonder where all the money went. Can you relate to this? So do I!!!

It is very important that we begin to save money because if we don’t have a plan in place for this we will tend to feel guilty after the end of each month because we don’t know where our money went or what we should have done with our money. It is also important to get this handled because sometimes we may encounter emergencies and if we do not have money during those times we could find ourselves in really serious situations e.g. our children can die because we chose to spend all our money on entertainment and we didn’t plan for sickness.

So you do know that money is important and without money we cannot do much because everything we want and need requires some form of money.

Here are 3 tips for saving money.

1. Learn to live on only 70% of your net income — I know that you are thinking that is hard but believe me it is possible for you to live on only 70% of your net income.

2. What to do with the other 30%? — Here is what you are going to do. The first 10% you are going to give it away to help people. For me I give the first 10% to a church. You may decide to give it to charity. Make sure and give it away. The 2nd 10% you should use it for savings/investing. Put it in a place where it can yield you a good return in a few years. The 3rd 10% you should use it to buy something and sell it for a profit. Get into the entrepreneur spirit and learn to feel what it is like to have a small part time business.

3. Keep track of where your money is going — Get a journal or make a simple excel spreadsheet and start writing down where the money is going. This way you will know what to do the following month to ensure that your money is being used wisely and not wastefully.

I encourage you to try this simple principle for at least 1 month and see what happens. Commit this month to write down everytime you buy something and how much you paid for it and then review this at the end of the month. This simple technique will work wonders for you.

Hi there. How are you doing today. I hope all is fine. Today I want to talk a little bit about money. This is a topic that gathers a lot of interest because we all use money and we all need it. Money is a necessity no matter what anyone else says. One of the hardest things when it comes to money is deciding how to spend it wisely.

I am sure that you are just like the majority of us who can sometimes make buying decisions that we regret later on. Marketers say that we make buying decisions emotionally and then we justify those decision logically. So how do we decide if something is worth buying or not.

I was listening to Eben Pagan talk about this and he gave some wisdom on this topic. Here is what he said in his own words.

You can’t make a good buying decision when you’re excited and you can’t make a good selling decision when you’re afraid

Now that is some good wisdom. Many times we go into a store and we see a dress, a watch, a book or some item and we get excited and in our excitement we get carried away and we buy the item and then a few days after we suffer from buyer’s remorse. We knew we shouldn’t have bought that item but the decision has already been made.

The next time you’re going to buy a small item e.g. in the $60 — $100 range, wait for a week. Yes you heard that right. If it’s a major thing that you want to buy costing from a few hundreds to a few thousands then wait for a month (preferably 3 months). What you will realise by doing this is that the excitement to buy the product has diminished and you realise you don’t really need it and you should not buy it.

This strategy is a new concept for me and for many of you but I believe by utilising this strategy it will help all of us to make better buying decision and we shouldn’t feel guilty with our next purchase.
